Juno, the most over rated movie of the year.

My MySpace Status for the last few hours has been as follows:

Tim Duffy. finds it depressing that in a year with Superbad and Knocked Up, Juno would be the only comedy nominated for a best picture oscar.

It elicited a response from a usually MySpace-phobic friend of mine which went like this:

you're the only person i know who didn't like it.

you're just a cynic and a nay sayer.

though I will agree that Knocked Up deserved a nod.

This could not be left alone. My Response:

i'm not. it's like the hippest episode of gilmore girls ever.

it's a bad movie. indie by numbers. i will question your taste from here on out for your vehement defense of this movie.

i wish i was just a cynic and a naysayer, i can usually see when that's the case. this time i feel justified. this movie is over praised and mediocre. ellen page and all the actors for that matter put in fine performances especially given the garbage source material and even worse forced quirkiness but that does not make a great movie. below is a list of 10 movies released this year all of which merit that spot in the best picture nominees more than juno:
1. superbad
2. knocked up
3. ratatouille
4. persepolis
5. once
6. the host
7. in the shadow of the moon
8. king of kong: pocket full of quarters
9. american gangster
10. the simpsons movie

below this is a list of movies i haven't even seen that i'm sure are better than juno:
1. the bourne ultimatum
2. the diving bell and the butterfly
3. the assasination of jesse james by the coward robert ford
4. into the wild
5. lust caution
6. 4 months, 2 weeks, 3 days
7. closer
8. norbit
9. 3:10 to yuma
10. charlie wilson's war

For further ruminations on how poor Juno was please see the last few weeks of the Best Show on WFMU.

Top Five Things I'm Excited About Today(Updated 10:52PM)

5. The return of Rummy. Donald Rumsfeld testified(ie: lied and stamered) in front of congress today. I'm excited to see what the Daily Show does with the footage, it's been months without some crazy shit coming out of this guy's mouth.

4. Roxy Music I know next to nothing about this band aside from the fact that Brian Eno is one of my favorite solo artists ever. As such I've decided to dedicate at least an album's length of time to them for the rest of my working week. So far so good.

3. The Best Show on WFMU I think Tom is at his best when (as in the last two weeks) the callers aren't giving him what he wants. Listen to this show!

2. Les Savy Fav added to the LCD Soundsystem/Arcade Fire Show!!! October 6th, I'll buy my ticket soon.

1. Advance screenings of movies!!! Last week I got to see Simpsons a day early, tonight it is the much anticipated Superbad, tomorrow it's Stardust which I didn't care about until I realised Ricky Gervais was in it. Best part it's all FREE!!!

****I didn't get to see Superbad, have to see it in two Wednesdays.

WFMU 91.1, In An Office Without iTunes You're a Dream

I haven't listened to the radio with the regularity I have this past two weeks Since the 2004 launch of Air America. I haven't listened to music radio this much since the mid 90's. I'm smitten with WFMU. I've been finding myself listening all day in the office. I also found myself on Friday night enthralled in Yo La Tengo's annual live cover fest. I even found myself listening last night when the televisions in my home were occupied. In fact I was quite ammused by The Best Show on WFMU with Tom Scharpling.

Bored? Why not stream some?
