Jake Effect, the Return of Brilliant But Cancelled

I just watched the second best TV series Jason Bateman ever starred in in 3 hours. (I missed some because I had to flick to VH1's Heavy: The Story of Metal during commercials.*) So the show is called Jake Effect and it's the story of a guy who was a jaded lawyer leaves his law firm to pursue a career teacher, meets a hot teacher(Nicki Cox), his friend narrates the show Kyle Gass (of Tenacious D of course) is on it, everyone has fun.

Alas this show never made it to air. And even though the plot seems formulaic the show is amazing. Well structured, witty, no laugh track, occassionally surealistic, always well acted. In the past I would have gone to Trio for thsi sort of uncovered gem, but as some of you know Trio ain't around no more. But hooray Bravo has picked up the Brilliant But Cancelled thing and now television is saved once more!!!

Of course TV chanels can't survive too long on shows not good enough to be on TV. So they've built a rather swank little website with all of the episodes of Jake Effect on line! Enjoy!

*Chuck Klosterman's favorite concerts apparently his top 14 are Kiss 13 times and one Prince show.

Today's "Best Song Ever"

Scott Walker "Cossacks Are"

I thought I'd figured Scott Walker out. I thought I was as into it as I ever would be. But then I saw the super stark, super dense, packaging that the album comes in and I simply had to have it. The I saw that it was the best selling album at Other Music, I felt like a fool for not buying it weeks ago. Then I listened to the first track which sounds like a low budget colaboration between Ennio Morricone and Ian Curtis and it made me sad. Which is this music's job. This some wintery music to be enjoying in such lovely weather.
