Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2006

The nominees for the always frustrating Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been anounced and the list is awesome. The R&RHF is always sure to disapoint in some way but here's my picks: Blondie and Miles Davis are both first time nominees but are sure things I think. Cat Stevens seems likely Seymore Stein (head of the induction comitee, founder of Sire Records) said that one of the last letters sent to him by Jonny Ramone encouraged his induction, Eddie Vedder has also been pressing for this. I say okay to Cat Stevens or as he is now known Yusaf Islam, I think it'll have big time political implications, plus "The Wind" is an awesome song (also as a primary influence on Sufjan Stevens and Iron & Wine he is more relavent today then ever).

After those three there are two more slots. nominated are: Grand Master Flash and the Furious 5, Sex Pistols, Lynard Skynard, Chic, Patty Smith, Iggy and the Stooges, Black Sabbath and many more. Justice would dictate Iggy and Sabbath get in but the world is in some ways shit. Both bands have been nominated for the better part of a decade. I want to see Grand Master Flash bring hip hop to the hall, it may still be too soon(I wouldn't be surprised if the hall waited for Run DMC to be elligable to let rap groups in). My guess is Chic and Skynard being the most commercially successful nominees will likely be inducted. We'll see though.

Fucking Rock and Roll hall of fame sucks... is there anything less rock and roll than haveing a hall of fame to begin with?

despite the fantastic list of nominees I know theyll some how manage to disapoint and induct a whole bunch of shitty people...
Skynard is definatly in... maybe they'll make an exception and let Yes in a few years early just to piss everyone off more when Sabbath gets bypassed again...
I bet Ozzy as a Solo Artist gets in before Sabbath...
thats when I burn the RnR HoF to the ground.

I can sort of take or leave Patty Smith. She's got alot of stuff that's great art but I don't ever want to listen to Patty Smith.

The rock and roll hall of fame is really a joke. It is filled with "artists" that don't deserve to be there because the voting process is biased. I don't think there is a group of people that know less about music than music critics, writers and historians. These guys think Elvis Costello is hall of fame material, but Van Halen is not. Come on. The only reason the music critics hate good rock music is because they were losers in high school who were picked on by people who listened to Black Sabbath and Van Halen. I read an article by some music historian named Brett Milano who thinks Van Halen should not be indicted, beause Eddie Van Halen taught people to "overplay" the guitar. I've got news for him. While Mr. Milano was jerking off in his bedroom to pictures of Elvis Costello, Eddie Van Halen was positively influencing millions of young guitar players. Just Google the name 'Brett Milano' and take a look at his picture. This guy couldn't get laid by a fat groupie hooker backstage at a Motley Crue concert.
