Google Instant Messager

Considering how quickly people hopped on to g-mail, how long do we have before the whole world is using this service? How long til we have to leave our AIM behind? Why must the Google guys (strange Steve Jobs isn't "The Apple Guy," Bill Gates isn't "The Windows Guy") keep expanding there business into our already sufficiantly facilitated internet needs? Why?!
