Shortlist Prize Cancelled, My Picks
Always ready to bare bad news Pitchfork reported (something I'd expected for about three months now) The Shortlist Prize has been cancelled. As a guy who loves both indie-music and pompous award shows this is a huge blow to my year. In response I've decided to announce whom I think the Shortlist judges would've picked for this year's prize. This means that I'm picking not my favorite albums just the ones this particular award show would have latched onto. The general tone is semi popular and classy indie innovators, so sorry no Animal Collective or Hold Steady. Also the Shortlist was working on an August to August schedule as apposed to a January to January one. Here's who they would've picked:
Sufjan Stevens 'Illinoise'
Death from Above 1979 'You're a Woman, I'm a Machine'
Sleater Kinney 'The Woods'
M.I.A 'Aruluar'
Arcade Fire 'Funeral'
Bright Eyes 'I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning'
LCD Soundsystem 'LCD Soundsystem'
The Go! Team 'Thunder Lightning Strike'
And the wienner erm winner is:
Those wiley Canadians! M.I.A would've had a good shot too, and had no real competition as far as undie-hip hop goes, also Arcade Fire might have lost for being the biggest of all these bands. But really who knows what really would've happened?
