OMG! The Totally Irrelevant MTV VMA's Are In Full Hype Swing
Anybody watch last year's VMA's? I didn't. In spite of the Racounteurs and Jack Black I couldn't imagine careing about an award show for music videos presented by a reality TV network dedicated to not promoting music videos at all. This year something strange has happened a few catagories have nothing to do with videos. Which is cool.
Even cooler though is the fact that amongst the nominees are some pretty great acts. I know what you're thinking Rihanna, Lil Mama, Justin Timberlake all great, maybe the White Stripes and perhaps the fresh and fairly popular Lily Allen are represented. "Great Tim, but really no surprises there." That's true no surprises there. What is surprising is Swedes Peter Bjorn and John being nominated for Best New Artist. Still more surprising is the Video of the Year nomination for Justice's "D.A.N.C.E", really?!
Of course getting me to watch is still a bit more difficult impending performances from Lily Allen, Kanye West and the Foo Fighters (who were in spite of my mixed feelings the only performance worth seeing in the Live Earth TV coverage) might help. Will I watch I suppose that depends on my options for the night but at least Mtv has acknowledged how terrible their last few years have been.
My Choice for video of the year wasn't nominated:
Labels: justice, kanye, peter bjorn and john, video music awards, VMA
